About JMB Communications and Jeff Berger

Long-time photojournalist / travel writer Jeff Berger first visited St. Maarten while working for New England Mutual Life Insurance Company (NEL) in 1977, when he was editor of NEL's field magazine, The Pilot's Log. NEL was holding its annual top agents meeting and Jeff was there to write about and photograph it. He fell in love with the island and with its people, and was especially impressed with a dinner under the stars at the "Caravanserai Restaurant," then the best restaurant on the island, and with the island's pristine beaches.

He and his wife returned in 1978 (not long after the infamous "Blizzard of '78" in New England) and have been visiting and staying longer ever since.

In 1992, after launching JMB Communications, his PR and marketing company, Jeff launched www.jmbcommunications.com, his company website, on which he posted many writing samples including a one-page narrative about St. Maarten / St. Martin.

New search engines picked up that writing sample, people started reading it, and soon Jeff got calls from friends on the island thanking him for mentioning them on his "St. Maarten Website." "I had no idea what they were talking about," he recounts.

He quickly figured it out. His "St. Maarten site" has grown and changed tremendously since then, and in December, 2014, it surpassed 4,000,000 visitors. It has now surpassed 12 million visitors.

JMB Communications today provides marketing communications, PR, and website design / web content creation services to high technology, financial, manufacturing, hospitality, B2B, B2C, and other clients around the world.
